TRANSPORTATION!!!!!( BIG SCAM TRANSPORTATION)!!!!!!! WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!! After several weeks of research on a mover I went with Big Sam, they were not the cheapest or the most expensive and I did not find anything negative on them. They have a BBB web-site but they are not members, I wish I would have known that ahead of time, I complained to the BBB they could do nothing about it. BIG SAM can delete any negative items on their BBB page. I was given a estimate over the phone with an employee named Natalie of $2100 dollars based on 3800lbs. The move was for my mothers house, a small house with two bedroom sets and 140 boxes only, no couches or appliances. They showed up a day late. When they walked in the house the first thing they stated was that we had way more than 3800lbs. They did provide me with a weight slip after I insisted, but were very rude about it. And who knows how accurate that is as you really have no way to check for yourself. The following day is when the fun begins. I received a call from the dispatcher named Gabriel, he is from another country could not understand him as his accent was very heavy. He told me that I went over my weight by 5000lbs, which is absolutely impossible. I own a 2500 sq ft home and I am married with three children, we don't even own that much stuff. This is my single mother. I asked him to give me the last weight ticket, again very rude. He told me if I did not pay the full amount he was going to hold my belongings hostage( which is very illegal). He told me that I could do nothing about it. As it turned out he was right nobody would care ; I called the US DOT to file a complaint and the person there said what they are doing is illegal, but that if I wanted my stuff that I needed to pay them and that they are already being investigated for numerous compaints .
The next day I paid the amount they requested to get my items to me. Gabriel said it would be awhile before they could bring me my stuff because it was in storage and as soon as they had a pick up near me they would come. $3300 dollars later.
Two weeks later Gabriel gives me a call and tells me that my mothers items were coming but if I wanted the driver to unload my stuff that I needed to fax him a copy of my credit card front and back. Unbelievable!!!! I asked him why in the world he needed that,he said the merchant requires it. That's bull. I called the merchant and was told NOT to do that, but found out that, again, I have no choice but to do what he wants if my mother is ever to get back her property. I reluctantly sent him the front copy of the card. I immediately had to cancel the card.
They finally show up with my items, they were supposed to call me so that I can meet them at the weigh station but they did not. And when I informed them about that they were again very rude and arrogant and they told me I was making this hard. Hard for them to take my $5700??? I asked them to just bring me my stuff . After they unloaded the truck I could see some damage to my furniture and some missing boxes. I will have to get in contact with the insurance company on that. I will see how far that goes.( the movers themselves did a good job, wish I could have tipped them more. Not their fault.) If you read this you have been warned this company will RIP you off. I don't want anybody else to go through what I did.
